Kawagoe Shrine &Temple in Spring

Tourist Spot

I am going to introduce Shrines and Temples in Kawagoe where cherry blossoms are beautiful in spring.
Six million tourists visit Kawagoe every year. Kawagoe prospered as a castle town during the Edo period and came to be called Little Edo.
The townscape is a place where you can feel Japanese culture with many historical buildings.

The first one is “Hikawa Shrine”, which is famous for fulfilling love.
A lot of young women visit the Hikawa Shrine because it is said to be effective in fulfilling love.

This is the gate called Torii.
A torii is a structure at the entrance of a shrine, and is considered to be the boundary separating the world of gods and the world of humans. The inside of the torii gate is considered to be a sacred precinct.

This building is called temizuya or chozuya, and is a place to wash your hands and mouth to purify yourself before going to the worship hall.

This is the main Shrine.

The entire Shrine is surrounded by trees, you can feel a sacred atmosphere.

You will catch a sea bream-shaped omikuji with a fishing rod.
There is a piece of paper with this year’s fortune written inside the sea bream-shaped omikuji.

Behind Hikawa Shrine, there is a river surrounded by cherry trees, which is very beautiful.
Many people visit during the cherry blossom viewing season at the end of March. Some people enjoy cherry blossom viewing while eating and drinking with a blue sheet on the side of the river.

In the middle of the photo, they are enjoying cherry blossom viewing on a raft.
It is very beautiful to see the cherry blossoms fall, so it is recommended to experience it.

Second one is the Temple called Kitain.
It’s a little far from Kawagoe’s main street, but it’s worth a visit because it’s a historical temple.

There are stalls at the entrance of the temple, and the Pink lanterns are also nice.

During the cherry blossom viewing season from mid-March to April, there are temporary stalls,
and many people enjoy the cherry blossoms with blue sheets spread out.

There are cherry trees here and there around the shrine.

Third one is Temple called “Renkeiji”
Renkeiji is located along the main street of Koedo Kawagoe, so access is easy.

The cherry blossoms are beautiful, so it is recommended to go during the cherry blossom viewing season from mid-March to early April.
There are many women walking around Kawagoe wearing kimonos.
