Meiji Jingu is located one minute’s walk from Harajuku Station,
3.1 million worshipers visit annually.

Despite being in the big city of Tokyo, it is a place full of trees
where you can feel the great nature and sacredness.
Meiji Jingu is very popular with tourists form abroad.

This shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken.

There is a cafe called Forest Terrace at the entrance of Meiji Jingu.
Surrounded by forest, it’s nice to have a cup of coffee on the terrace seats.

Second Torii Gate.

This is the entrance of Meiji Jingu Gyoen.
During the Edo period, it was the garden of the Kato family residence of the Kumamoto feudal lord.
Entrance fee is 500 JPY.

Thisi is Kiyomasa’s well.
It is said that Kato Kiyomasa, known as a military commander during the Sengoku period, dug the well.
A large amount of water springs up without ceasing”,
so it suddenly became known as a power spot that “purifies bad spirits and improves luck” when visiting here.

There is a field in the middle of the big city, and you can see the traditional Japanese scenery.

This is Minami Shin Mon.
The chrysanthemum crest associated with the imperial family is carved on the door.

This is Meiji Jingu Main Hall.

Here is the instructions on how to worship.
1 Put money in the offertory box.
2 Bow twice
3 Clap twice. Pray with your hands together.
4 Bow once

There are lots of Ema.
Ema are wooden boards with pictures on them, on which people write their wishes
and dedicate them to shrines and temples so that their wishes come true.

There is a restaurant and souvenir shop.
People are resting after visiting the shrine

Mitarashi dango popular with tourists.
