Hama-rikyu Gardens

Park

Hama-Rikyu was build by the general Tokugawa Tunashige during the Edo period.
Hama-Rikyu Pond takes in seawater from Tokyo Bay.
It is unusual to use seawater as pond water in a Japanese garden
There are pine trees and cherry trees in the garden, so you can feel a Japanese garden.
Hama-Rikyu is located in central Tokyo, so it is easy to access.

Japanese garden surrounded by skyscrapers.
Interesting contrast between modern buildings and historic gardens

Pine trees, Japanese houses, bridges and ponds represent a Japanese garden.

Cross the bridge and you will find Nakajima  no Ochaya.
Ochaya means a tea house.
There are four teahouses around the pond,
(Nakajima no Ochaya, Swallow no Ochaya, Hawk no Ochaya, and Pine Tree no Ochaya)
Currently, only Nakajima Ochaya is available.

In the garden there is Nakajima no Ochaya, where you can enjoy matcha green tea and Japanese sweets.

Many people are lining up to enter the ”Ochaya”
You may have to wait about twenty minutes on weekend.

This is the inside of Nakajima no Ochaya.
People were siting on the red carpet,

There are chairs and tables outside.

I think that looking at pond, garden, pine tree with Matcha is great!
