Sarushima Island

Tourist Spot

Before World War II, Sarushima Island was a fortress that protected Tokyo Bay
from invasion and attack by foreign ships. Multiple cannons were placed

Currently, Sarushima Island is an uninhabited island, and it is a sightseeing spot
where you can experience Sarushima’s historical heritage and enjoy BBQ.

The English translation of Sarushima is Monkey Island.
But there are no Monkeys on this Island.
In the Kamakura period, when Nichiren Shonin crossed the sea by ship, the ship was wrecked in a storm.
A white monkey suddenly appeared and helped him to reach this island.
It was named Sarushima because of this old tale.
