Tourist Spot

Shibamata is about 40 minutes from Ueno Station on the Keisei Main Line,
and you can enjoy the old-fashioned Japanese retro townscape.

The approach to the Shibamata Taishakuten, which was formed at the end of the Meiji era,
still retains the same townscape ,
and is lined with long-established restaurants and souvenir shops.
It is like a movie set.

The approach to Shibamata Taishakuten is an old-fashioned Japanese townscape, lined with pickles shops, dumpling shops, eel shops, rice cracker shops, etc.

The streets are cobbled and the buildings are wooden old-fashion Japanese houses.

On both sides of the Taishakuten approach, there is a long-established Takagiya,
which sells grass dumplings and salt crackers etc.

This is a Yuzu dumpling.
Dumplings with yuzu Flavor and sweet bean paste.

Soy sauce flavored dumplings with grilled seaweed.

This time, there are two food stalls.
The shop in front is a Banana Chocolate stall, and the shop in the back is a Takoyaki stall.

This store is called “Shibamata Haikara Yokocho”
This shop is like Japanese old style candy store before 1980.

A shop that makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time to Japan’s Showa era.

There are lot of snacks that Elementary School Students are going to buy those
on the way home after school.
The price is so cheap that you can buy it for 10 JPY, 20 JPY

There are also old-fashioned pachinko game machines.

This is Space Invaders Game Machines that used to be a coffee shop table in 1980s.

Some tourists are taking pictures of those game machines,

The Nitenmon Gate was built in 1896 and is said to be modeled after the Yomeimon Gate
of Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

Shibamata Taishakuten is the symbolic temple of Shibamata.
Behind the Temple, there are Japanese Garden and temple sculpture gallery.

It takes about four Minutes by walk to get Shibamata Taishakuten from Shibamata Station.
